Along is not just a stray — he is a beloved community cat in Cheras, cared for and loved by the people around him.
He appeared one day, as if asking for help. What started as a painful gum condition has now turned into a serious, life-threatening fungal infection.
Along’s Story
A rescued community cat…
When Along first showed up, he was suffering from severe gum disease, with bleeding gums so painful that he eventually stopped eating and drinking.
A kind volunteer brought him to the vet, where he underwent:
- Medication and treatment
- Dental scaling
- Removal of 2 rotten teeth
After that, Along recovered well and returned to his community — safe, loved, and cared for. A small cat house was even built for him, and he regained his strength.
But life on the streets is never easy.
Along got into a fight and suffered a bite wound on his side. Though it seemed to heal at first, months later, the wound returned — this time worse.
Despite treatment, the wound did not heal and continued spreading.
On 6 May, Along was diagnosed with SPOROTRICHOSIS (Sporo) — a severe fungal infection that:
- Is contagious to other animals and humans
- Spreads under the skin
- Requires long-term treatment
His condition requires continuous medical support, and without it, his health could decline rapidly.
⚠️ What Along Is Facing
Sporotrichosis cannot be left untreated — especially for a street cat.
Along now requires:
- Daily Itraconazole (antifungal medication)
- Liver supplements (to prevent medication toxicity)
- Strict isolation care (to prevent spreading the infection)
We do not know how long his recovery will take. But we do know this: His treatment will be long, intensive, and costly.
